What is IEC number?
IEC (importer Exporter Code) number is a 10-digit code number given to an exporter or importer by the regional office of the Director general of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
Why do you need IEC number?
If you are planning to engage into a business of export/import, you would need IEC number as no export or import could be made by any person without an IEC number
Documents Required for Private Limited Company Registration
- 2 passport size photograph
- Copy of PAN
- Aadhaar card/ Driving license
- Cancelled cheque
- Latest Landline telephone Bill on the name of Proprietor or firm
- Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned or Rental Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased
- PAN of the Company.
- PAN of All Directors
- MOA AOA and Certificate of Incorporation.
- Bank Certificate or Cancelled Cheque bearing preprinted name of the applicant entity and A/c No.
- Address Proof of Applicant and Nominee Directors ie Passport / Voter ID / Driving Licence / Aadhar card (any one of these)
- Latest electricity bill of Registered office
- Latest Landline telephone bill in the name of Company
- Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned; or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased
- Photograph of All Directors
- PAN card of the LLP/firm
- PAN card of all Partners
- Address Proof of all partners ie Passport / Voter ID / Driving Licence / Aadhar card (any one of these)
- Photograph of all Partners
- Partnership Deed./LLP Agreement
- Latest electricity bill of Registered office
- Latest Landline telephone in the name of Firm
- Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned; or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased
- Bank Certificate and Cancelled Cheque bearing preprinted name of the applicant entity and A/c No.
- PAN card of the Trust or Society
- PAN card of all members
- Address Proof of all members i.e. Passport / Voter ID / Driving Licence / Aadhar card (any one of these)
- Photograph of all Members
- Byelaws or MOA of the organization
- Latest Landline telephone in the name of Firm
- Sale deed in case business premise is self-owned; or Rental/Lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased
- Bank Certificate and Cancelled Cheque bearing preprinted name of the applicant entity and A/c No.

FAQ
1) All Importers who import goods into India require an IE Code. The IE Code must be quoted while clearing customs
2) All Exporters who export goods or services from India require an IE Code. The IE Code must be quoted while sending shipments.
3) Also, banks require the importers IE Code while sending money to or receiving from abroad.
IE Code can easily be obtained from DGFT within 10-15 working days after submission of the application along with all the necessary information.
Even individuals who are proprietors of a business can obtain IE Code in their name. It is not necessary to incorporate a business entity for obtaining IE Code.
No, there is no requirement to file any return Once, The code remains valid without any further processing.
IEC code is valid for life time.
